VIRTUE
In 1800, the year after George Washington’s death, “Parson Weems”
(Mason Locke Weems) wrote a narrative of Washington listing his virtues as
including the following: generous,
reverent, studious, athletic, martial, hardworking, and beloved by his
comrades.
Can you imagine someone listing the virtues of Trump similarly?
Trump Is the most non-virtuous, and non-compassionate person
I know (with Musk running a close second.)
In our society today, is “virtue” even considered an
admirable trait to have? What people who
are well-known, are known for their virtues today? When was the last time that any of us
admitted to having any virtues? When we talk praise about our spouse, or our
children, do we ever include their virtues?
(Or do we only speak of their achievements?) Is “virtue” a lost word today?
